Magnet Awards for Pioneering Leadership in the Ecosystem (MAPLE)

The 2025 Maple & Gold Gala will take place on November 6th at Toronto’s historic Distillery District. The cornerstone of the gala will be the second annual Magnet Awards for Pioneering Leadership in the Ecosystem (MAPLE), which celebrate the best in leadership, innovation, and impact across Canada’s workforce development ecosystem.

This year, we invite you to cast your vote across three categories and encourage others to do the same.

Changemaking Champion Award

This award recognizes an organization that has shown exceptional leadership in advancing workforce development through a future-focused strategic vision, tackling disruption and change.

CCAA has led real-world teams to create solutions for critical skills gaps in the aviation and aerospace workforce since 1993. Canada’s aerospace manufacturers and aviation operators have faced persistent shortages of skilled technicians for years. CCAA’s solutions include updated occupational standards, digitized certifications, live virtual workshops on Quality and Safety, and an E Learning platform for aircraft structures “S” maintenance engineering which aligns with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). CCAA is especially proud to administer funding from the federal government for employer wage subsidies.

Food and Beverage Ontario (FBO) a not-for-profit, leadership organization dedicated to advancing the interests of Ontario’s food and beverage processors. Since its launch, FBO’s CareersNow! has helped more than 3,500 people access new opportunities in Ontario’s largest manufacturing sector.

Jelly Academy Through accessible training in social media, SEO, and public relations, Jelly has championed opportunities for underrepresented communities. Most notably, Jelly convened the Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) community for the Innovative Indigenous Career and Future Skills Symposium—bringing together Indigenous leaders, educators, and changemakers to strengthen Indigenous career pathways and amplify Indigenous voices in the future of work.

Collaboration Catalyst Award

This award recognizes organizations that have excelled in fostering robust partnerships and new models of collaborations to create novel solutions in employment and training.

Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC) The NLWIC Best Practices Repository (BPR) contains a wealth of research and workforce development knowledge. The NLWIC BPR brings together relevant research into a centralized resource to provide best practices that can be adopted and used in different geographical and thematic contexts.

Saint John Newcomer Centre (SJNC) A forward-thinking and open-minded approach to adopting new tools and technologies to better serve their job seeker clients. SJNC has partnered with Magnet to test and develop new AI tools that will support their clients with faster job matches, resume support, and interview coaching.

CiviConnect equips Ontario’s youth for career success bridging the gap between education and employment. Through innovative work-integrated learning programs like the Youth Skills Studio, we provide technical and soft skills training while supporting local businesses in sectors such as technology and skilled trades.

Technology Trailblazer Award

This award celebrates organizations that have harnessed the power of cutting-edge technology to enhance impact through increased efficiency, accessibility, and effectiveness.

Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) OVIN aims to accelerate the commercialization and adoption of new vehicle and mobility technologies, helping to reduce environmental impact and boost Ontario’s manufacturing sector. OVIN is working with Magnet to develop new labour market information (LMI) visualization tools to help Ontarians explore trends and  jobs in the sector.

Wavemakers offers Canadian post-secondary students work-integrated learning experience through a virtual reality environment, making the program available to all students, no matter their location. Students receive training from industry experts in key areas including teamwork, systems thinking, emotional learning, and problem solving.

The Centre for Digital Media (CDM) launched through a collaboration between four BC post-secondary institutions—offers experiential learning programs that bring diverse learners into the world of digital media. In collaboration with technology leaders including Microsoft, Unity, and Meta, CDM proudly supports Black futures through their work with Ethós Lab. CDM’s research capacity has resulted in over 350 digital product developments with BC firms, as well as civic organizations, including hospitals and municipal services.
